Just came back from South Bank's Anime Festival and watched 5 cm per second. What a wonderful anime it is, I was a bit sceptical about how an anime just over 1 hr can mentioned... It is about a story between a boy and girl and their relationship apart and how they development. It was divied into 3 stories, and 1st story was freely available as a preview on the internet. The animation was so goo dna dI wonder.. Why Disney even bothered with Invisible.. when animation should stay this way (I much prefer 2D plus computer graphics, rather than trying to attempt to creat anime look too real in real life) 5CM way blending daily images with characters was definitely the highlight.. for me it was more about the last story.. I never thought, it was not a happy ending. However, after the Director's talk, and after digging around all night for the book version of 5cm per second, I realised it should be in that way. Tono - (the male character) cannot move on from his 1st love, when Akira already moved on after they failed to continue with the relationship, this is definitely a shock to me, especially this story is written by a male director Distance was a key part to the story.. and now. I'm going to look all for the Shinkai's anime collection
