Travel a fair bit and have seen a few anime titles that I'd love to see over here. They include
- Code Geass- it combines fluid mecha action, grey politics (i.e. not black and white), media manipulation /propaganda which is now as much a part of war and terrorism/ freedom fighting as guns and bullets, and showing war is hell, but not doing in a preachy way (a la Gundam), or a depressing way (a la She/Saikano).
- Infinite Ryvius- Lord of the Flies in space... well kind of but not quite. Large recurring cast, good plot, some nice action pieces and suspense scenes, and of course the usual love dodecahedron's.
- Big O -Batman in a giant death robot... not much else to say really.
- Macross Zero/ Frontier -fluid mecha action that it often seems more like a ballet than a battle, and it might be easier to licence in this country than in the states where there is all the faff about Robotech/Macross intellectual properties.
- Rec -sweet and short little romance. Basically take a standard harem romance and cut out almost all the other women/ girls, leaving two people meeting and gradually falling for each other if in a slightly screwy order.
- Soukou No Strain -Mecha series complete with a psychologically scared lead pilot WHO ISN'T EMO. Good battles nice plot and good character development.
- Scrapped Princess - Magic, Mecha and many cute chicks.
- Darker Than Black - one part noir thriller one part super powered action series. While kind of episodic (as far as i got to everything was in two part arcs) they were beginning to link up the various arcs and characters.
- Patlabor -OVA's and TV series- There is a one OVA and two TV series which are appparently very good and add a lot to the characters for the movies.
- Ghost Hunt- great character development, nice arced story
- Anything Bones ...except Jyu Oh Sei. It sucked, but Ayakashi Ayashi, Skull Man, etc are all good.
- Chokotto Sister & Code-E-- both sweet little shows.
- Moyashimon- Nice little slice of life at uni with a microbial twist and great characters.
- Twelve Kingdoms - By the same guy who did Ghost Hunt, detailed world, great character development, Just wish they'd finished it.
- Denno Coil- Reverse Matrix meets Azumanga Daioh is the only way i can think of describing it. Completely misguiding if you haven't watched it, but kinda make sense if you have. Meh, its good.
- Air Master -A High school fighting anime which does a great job of turning the cliché's on their head (eg the one high schooler that looks like a 10yr old isn't cute, she's loud and irriating... ie like most 10yr olds in real life)
- Ghost Hound- Utterly baffling, but good, as every episode makes sense, and they follow on well from one to another. It's just that, unlike most other anime, you have no idea where it's going, or what even the overall plot is.
- Oh and El Hazard & Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
